How to Get Back on Track

Feeling a bit off lately?  I can admit to feeling out of it over the past week.  We’re in a bit of an in-between time of year.  Where I live, we got a Springburst of warm weather, which instantly got everyone ready for spring.  And then it stopped.  So while I’m in spring mode, the weather hasn’t cooperated.  I’ve talked to a few people lately that have the same feeling, and here are a couple of their reasons for feeling “out of it” lately:

  • Tax season.  The stress of getting taxes done and meeting deadlines can be frustrating, as well as shelling out more money.
  • Abandoned new year’s resolutions.  Its about that time where you’ve either made progress on your goals, or realized you’ve given up on them.
  • Weather.  Spring is just about here.  Maybe?!?

I’ve been spending some time recently reading about goal setting and the quest for happiness.  At the end of the day, I feel that goals are really just a means to what we think is an end.  But it really is an ongoing journey.  Setting small, specific goals is helpful to make progress, but the real goal is to be happy.  To live each day at peace and on our own terms.  Nick over at Pura Vida Journey wrote a great piece that I’d like to share.

I think if we begin with the end in mind (and that end being happiness, or the life we want to live), we’ll find that our goals will fall into place much easier.  When I realize that I’m already happy, the stress of life’s troubles starts to slip away.

Here are some suggestions I have for getting back on track:

  • Start small.  You don’t have to change everything all at once.  Small changes help you build positive momentum.
  • Make a list of your recent accomplishments.  Small or large, at can be anything.  Write it down and read it again each day for the next week.
  • Implement meditation or exercise into your routine.  It can be as short as a few minutes.  Get some positive energy and motion into your life.  Meditation, in particular has helped me reduce stress and anxiety in my life.  I take a few minutes each day to clear my head and get in a positive mindset.

Maybe one of these will work for you.  The key is to try something new to break out of your old routine. Building new, positive habits is one of the best things you can do for yourself.  So give it a try.  Your future self will thank you!

Readers, have you felt “out of it” a bit lately?  Any particular reasons why?  How do you break out of it?
